2 Corinthians 3. Forum Discussion

Chapter 3 is a chapter about the superiority of the new covenant in Christ compared to the old covenant with Moses.

Paul makes the following points:

  • The new covenant is a new Spirit, which is our Lord, Jesus Christ.
  • The old covenant had limits; the new covenant is limitless.
  • The old covenant is referred to as, “The ministry of condemnation” in verse 9, and the new covenant is referred to as, “The ministry of righteousness.”
  • Moses used to put a veil over his face so that the sons of Israel would not look intently at the end of what was fading away.
  • That veil is removed in Christ
  • Whenever a person turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.

Turning to Jesus means praying through Him in the Spirit. It also means that we obey His commands, turn away from sin, and work to stop our bad habits and attitudes. The following scriptures help drive home these points:

  • “God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” – John 4:24
  • “If ye love me, keep my commandments.” – John 14:15
  • “Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.” – Acts 3:19
  • “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. - Romans 12:2
  • “Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” - James 4:7
  • “When I was a child, I used to speak like a child, think like a child, reason like a child; when I became a man, I did away with childish things.- 1 Corinthians 13:11

Like Paul, our adequacy is also from God. The more we focus on Him, and stop dwelling on ourselves, the better off we are. "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." - Mathew 6:33
