1 Timothy 6. Forum Discussion

Paul concludes his first letter to Timothy by writing about:

  • Behavior of slaves towards their masters
  • Identifying people that talk about false doctrines for selfish / evil reasons
  • Godliness and contentment
  • Warning against the love of money
  • A call to flea from negative behaviors and pursue: Godliness, faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness.

Paul encourages Timothy to “Fight the good fight of faith” and to “Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called.”

Let’s end our study of 1st Timothy with the following beautiful quote concerning the rich, “Instruct them to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, storing up for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is life indeed.”

Tomorrow, Lord willing, we will begin our study of 2nd Timothy. May God bless you in your studies! We welcome any thoughts, questions or feelings that you would like to share concerning today’s scripture. - Amen

Being content with food and shelter is a foreign concept to many of us. We are constantly marketed to and exposed to the world's thinking that "more stuff is better." It's important to slow down and remember how Jesus Himself prayed in the Lord's Prayer. He prayed for the basics and gave thanks and honor to His Father. Mathew 6:9-13 says,

“This, then, is how you should pray:

“‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one."
